Waffle Wednesday and Thirsty Thursday!

We used the knowledge we gained from learning about weight and capacity to follow a recipe to make waffles and orange juice. We needed to be accurate with our measuring so that the recipes worked out.  They were delicious!!

Volcano Art

When it was the sound of the week for the letter Vv, Kowhai team made some amazing volcanos for art.  Come and see them in the playroom. 

Maths - Weight

Kowhai team have been working on the concept of weight for Maths. We have learnt about heavy, light and balanced . Hooray! It's balanced. 

Frosty Morning!

Near the end of Term 2 we had a very crisp, frosty morning.  Kowhai team wrote some poems about the frost.  Come and see them on display at school.  Here are a few of the poems. 

Domino Maths

We used dominoes for Maths. Here are some of the activities we used them for. Find the number before and the number after the sum of your domino. Match the domino to its sum.  Find a domino with the matching dice pattern. Match the domino to its sum on the number line. Write a number sentence for the sum of two dominoes.

Fire Poems!

As part of our Firewise programme we wrote some descriptive poems about fire. Come into Kowhai Iti team and see our fiery poems.  Here are a few of them.

Strike!

The PTA kindly paid for a percussion performance group called Strike to visit Winchester School last week.   This instrument is called a Marimba. Murray used it to play a rainstorm song. Very apt for the Manawatu!  They made music with flames. The drums were very loud and exciting. Kowhai Iti team wrote some stories about Strike and we made a card to give to the PTA to say thank you.  Here are some of our stories.

Making our Hats

The Kowhai team had great fun learning to sew hats. We had many parents, grandparents and friends that came to help us in the hall. A huge thanks to everyone for their efforts and patience - we couldn't have achieved our wonderful hats without all the help.

Peter Rabbit Dance

Some Rimu Team (senior) children taught the Kowhai Team children a Peter Rabbit dance. They performed it at the Kowhai Team assembly. This was an excellent example of our 4C's vision for learning where our children were confident, creative, connected communicators. Add caption

Hokowhitu Kindergarten Visit

Kowhai-iti Team welcomed the Hokowhitu Kindergarten children, teachers and parents. The kindergarten children did activities with us and played in our playroom. Then we had a play together in the big playground.

Kowhai Team polar fleece hats.

The Kowhai Team sewed polar fleece hats and decorated them with felt shapes and buttons. We are very proud of how they turned out.   Homeroom 7's hats

Kowhai Team Cross Country Races.

The Kowhai Team finally got to have their cross country races on Thursday 17 May.  Many parents came to watch the races which were run with great determination by the children. The Year 1 Girls finish line. The home straight for the Year 1 Girls The finish line is near. The Year 1 Boys beginning their race. Racing down the home stretch. The boys in full flight!
