We used the knowledge we gained from learning about weight and capacity to follow a recipe to make waffles and orange juice. We needed to be accurate with our measuring so that the recipes worked out. They were delicious!!
Maths in Motion We use our number cards to practice ordering numerals. Kowhai team have been using the Poly Plugs (meaning many plugs) to work with numbers. Some children worked in pairs to discover Tens Friends. They wrote equations for Tens Friends. Some children have been working on joining two sets together. We have spent time working with dice patterns to learn the number they represent and ways to record that number. The children are also being taught how to use a calculator to record a given number as well.
As part of our measurement in maths we found out how long and tall some dinosaurs were. Using metre rulers we measured out the length of the dinosaurs and also their height. We then drew a rough outline to show how enormous the dinosaurs were. We could fit all the children of Kowhai-iti inside the dinosaur.
